O.P.I. releasing the Great and Powerful Oz collection in 2013
Just found this on OPI’s Facebook page:
Disney’s The Great & Powerful OZ inspired these 7 great & powerful limited edition lacquers, due out in March 2013!
The range includes three mega glitters, three pearly sheers, and one bold Liquid Sand hue. Which are you wishing for?

Not so crazy about this collection myself, but that’s merely a thing of personal taste because I’m just not into big glitter and pinks. What do you guys think about these? By the way, I am looking out to the movie, the trailer for it looks fantastic!
NEONaturals by Catrice, combining brights with nudes for a cheery winter.
The new Limited Edition “NEONaturals” by Catrice invites you to use bright colors to cheer up the winter months!
This collection brings the trend colors of international designers to your nails: six neons and six nudes for endless combinations and looks.
You can use these individually or as a color duo for a beautiful halfmoon manicure which you can easily make with the new nailart brush that will include 30 tip guide stickers!
I’m loving these brights and I will probably buy On The Bright Side Of Life at least once but probably twice so I will have a back up for it once I run out. I also like the look of Little Miss Sunshine (which incidentally is also one of my favorite movies, next to Amelie and Fightclub) and may buy that one too. The nudes I will have to see in person to be able to judge if they’ll go with my pale yet pinkish skintone. I do like the look of several of them though.
NEONaturals by Catrice will be available halfway December 2012 until halfway January 2013 in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Sneak Peek at Mariah Carey for O.P.I. – or is it a fake?
I found this picture earlier and I am really not sure how I feel about this set just yet… and honestly I’m wondering if this picture is real I mean 3 VERY similar browns (in this picture at least, which doesn’t seem to make much sense anyway as this collection is said to have 8 colors, I count 9 if you include the glitter which is pretty much Rainbow Connection from the Muppets collection that they released earlier this year… It’s true, look at THIS picture of that polish and the one up here… it’s the same picture! People are also saying that the other colors look like the ones from the Touring America collection… the plot thickens!), two fuchsias and what looks like a blackened purple, a grey and an orange and a glitter topcoat. It’s a bit… boring for a star who is known for her love of bling, you know what I mean? Mariah, I just expected so much more of you. You have studied cosmetology in case singing didn’t work for you and I thought you’d pick something a bit more unique for this collection… IF it is real that is…
That said, I do like browns and purples and fuchsias so I may just get a few of these… but I guess I’m underwhelmed by what I thought would be an amazing collection. So really, I do hope it’s fake!
In any case, her new collection will be out January 13th 2013 and later that year there will be a second collection, so hopefully she’ll redeem herself with that one, again… if this one is even real.
How do you feel about these colors?
Edited to add: LOOK these are the REAL polishes and swatches, thank goodness, this is what I expected of her, not those in the picture up there! *RELIEF*
Illamasqua releases Sephora exclusives stateside!
As you may possibly know, I adore Illamasqua and everything they stand for. Their colors are stunning and their collections innovative. So it is no surprise that I like this set of nail polishes with a rubber-like finish they’ve come out with. There are 6 new colors and 4 from a previous collection that are now being sold via the American Sephora site as online exclusives. That means it’s not easy to obtain these colors for everyone outside the USA, which makes me a bit sad, but what can you do, right?
Like I already wrote, 4 colors aren’t new. Faux Pas, Kink, Taint and Vice are all part of the Theatre of the Nameless collection that they released a while ago. I own both Vice and Taint from this collection and they are absolutely beautiful. The finish sits in between gloss and matte and the polish stays on for a long time without any chipping, which can often be a problem when they have a different finish. The other six colors listed alongside these four colors below are all brand new.
Let’s take a look at them all now, shall we?
- Aorta *- scarlet red
- Devotee *- candy pink
- Faux Pas – blue violet
- Kink – bottle green
- Nurture* – vivid green
- Optimist *- warm yellow
- Prosperity *- rich purple
- Serenity *- bright turquoise
- Taint – stone brown
- Vice – deep cerise
And this is the description of the colors on the Sephora site:
What it is:
A highly pigmented matte nail varnish with an innovative rubber-like finish. What it does:
Go beyond ordinary nails with this chip-resistant rubber-finish nail color that contains the finest high-grade color suspension materials for creating a fast and buildable waxy rubber finish. What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan
Man I so want that Prosperity one, I mean you can’t ever go wrong with a royal purple! And I also would love to complete my Theatre of the Nameless set with the other two polishes I’m still missing. Hopefully someday…
What do you think of Illamasqua? Have you tried their products before?
Catrice presents the “Upper WILDside” Limited Edition.
It’s time for exciting contrasts! Catrice takes you to the unspoiled world of prairies with the urban flair of the modern age city. A chic lifestyle is connected to the longing for freedom and a search filled with adventure. This contrast is reflected in the colors of the Upper WILDside LE: Warm natural hues like brown, beige, warm red and orange are up against gutsy blue and green. Indian look vs. urban style: wild but chic!
The colors are from left to right:
- Red rocks!
- Hunting Heritage
- Wild West-side
- Urban Outrider
- Be Aztec
Of course there are other products in this collection but you know me, I’ll focus on the Upper WILDside by CATRICE – Ultimate Nail Lacquer
The exciting Upper WILDside colors – warm Orange, brown and red meet cool urban blue and green. They will dry to a matte finish with a surface that feels like suede. (*Edited to add that it seems that only the red and orange will be suedes. The press information wasn’t really clear on that sadly.)
As you can see, these polishes have a shimmer in them that will look amazing when worn as is, without topcoat. But when you put either a glossy or a matte topcoat on these polishes they’ll look even more amazing. And that’s why I’ll try to get my hands on all of these colors as soon as they are out come the end of September. They’ll only be in the shelves until the end of October so if you want these you should hurry!
What’s your favorite color of this set? I personally like them all this time!

- Nº 31 Khaki Arty
- Nº 32 Rouge Expressionniste
There are only two colors in this collection and if I’m honest they’re not different from any other polishes I’ve seen before so I don’t think I’ll be buying these.
But who knows they may be stunning in person and these product mock ups don’t do them any justice.
What do you think of these?
Chanel Bombay & Les Essentiels de Chanel 2012 Fall collections.
Oh my, Chanel is certainly not sitting still and has already announced their fall 2012 collection which is has the theme Bombay as Karl Lagerfeld took his inspiration from India this time. Expect sultry kohl heavy looks and golden details as the models rock the runway in this unique video filmed last December:
[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dskLeT5EQy8[/tube]
And of course with this collection a lovely polish is being released called Diwali named after a holiday which is popularly known as the “festival of lights“. It is a glowing golden nail polish created by Peter Philips, and right now it’s available exclusively at the Chanel boutiques. But hopefully it will have a wider release later this year to a Chanel counter near you.

Alongside this themed collection Chanel is also releasing LES ESSENTIELS DE CHANEL, created by Peter Philips who is Creative Director of Chanel Makeup. The collection was inspired by Coco Chanel’s iconic essentials — the little black dress, the quilted handbag and the two-toned shoe.
With this collection come three shades, a lovely fuchsia called Suspicious, a beige nude color named Frenzy, and a brown called Vertigo which has a beautiful shimmer. I cannot wait to find these in the local shops as it looks like Vertigo is totally a color I would wear and I want to swatch it as soon as I possibly can.

What do you think of these two Chanel collections, do you like what you see?

Coming soon: Catrice Cucuba!
The range of nail colors in this collection is influenced by the colors of Cuba: warm shades such as bright yellow and two different browns are complemented by coral and mint green. These colors underline your summer style and are an ideal match for the other products in this Limited Edition. The new extrabroad brush guarantees an even more professional color application across your entire nail with just one stroke of the brush.
- Sunny Side - A lovely shimmery yellow
- Reggeaton - A beautiful shimmery brown
- Salsa Cubana - A soft peachy polish
- Havana Drum - A light nude-ish brown
- Take it Mint - A wonderful innocent mint
I do think I’ll be picking up the lovely mint color, and I will have to see the yellow and brown in real life as it looks like the yellow has micro flakies and the brown has some holographic pigment in there on the product pictures. But other than that I think I’ll let this collection pass. Unless of course they impress me the moment I see them for myself in the shop when they are released halfway this August.
How about you, what do you think of this set?
China Glaze Breast Cancer Awareness – United in Purpose
Last year China Glaze released a whole Breast Cancer Awareness set of polishes called Fight Like A Woman in October. This year they are releasing a whole new set of 12 colors called United in Purpose for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
I just found pictures of the colors and I am excited to share them with you!
Now if you’ve followed my blog it shouldn’t be a secret to you that I’m normally not into pinks and reds, So this collection, no matter how awesome the cause is, will probably not end up in my nailpolish drawers… APART from the two browns which look -AMAZING- up close in the product pictures!
You see, when you look closely at the picture below, you can spot little holo shimmers in there, I’m telling you, these are the two polishes to watch in this set!
I don’t think they will be an awesome linear holo like the infamous China Glaze OMG collection, but I bet it will be quite glorious either way! I can’t wait to see swatches of these two, Hello Gorgeous being the favorite of the two for me by the way.
I think we will have to wait a while for this collection to pop up (like half a year probably) but I think the wait will be worth it. Don’t you think?
Alright, I’ve given in! Here’s my Easter manicure!
I didn’t think I would do it, honestly I don’t care much about Easter nail art. All the Easter eggs, bunnies and crosses in pastel shades usually do not do it for me but when my mom asked me if I wasn’t going to do any Easter themed nails I took it as a bit of a challenge to find something I like that does have a bit of an Easter feel to it.
So I came up with these:
Excuse the dry cuticles, I’m working on those, believe me! I know what’s causing them too, you see, I’m just too stubborn or actually too impatient to stop using Acetone free remover, so every time I take off my polish I dry out my cuticles a tad more and I have to use my OPI Avoplex things again to get them a bit more presentable again… A never ending cycle really. You know how it goes I’m sure…
Anyway what I used for this mani is the following:
Orly Nailtrition – The basecoat
China Glaze‘s For Audrey – The base color
Konad‘s Wine Red stamping polish for the dots as I couldn’t find my brown.
A Sponge Bob Stamping plate for the dots (Click here to go to the Ebay page to buy it):
And of course a royal coat of Seche Vite to protect it all and after that I was done. That’s all there is to it really and it makes for a cute, really wearable Easter manicure.
Did you do an Easter manicure as well this year? If so, what did you do?
China Glaze Halloween 2012 collection preview!
Wow, it’s only just February and there have already popped up a few pictures of the Halloween 2012 collection that China Glaze will be bringing out!
I of course can’t help but share these little gems with you. No word on when exactly they will be up for sale and I haven’t found any swatches of it yet, but as soon as I know more you’ll of course hear it here first.
There are 6 colors in this collection, from the vibrant almost neon Roguish Red, to the murky yet shimmery Cast a spell I have a feeling this collection will not disappoint.
I’m not really into glitter so if they will bring out separate packs I will probably not buy the one that has Glitter Goblin, but who knows it might be one that steals my heart the most when I see it swatched or at least in person.
Being a big fan of blue toned purple I will probably try to hunt Bizarre Blurple down though. Plus that I have to admit that Immortal is intriguing me as well, will it have glitter or possibly holographic shimmers or flakies? Will it possibly be a dupe for Illamasqua’s Raindrops? As for Make a Spectacle… I have a feeling we’ve all seen this one before, who doesn’t remember Snow Globe from last years Let it Snow collection? I’m all for recycling, but not in the polish world. There are still so many colors and finishes out there, please come up with something new instead of bringing back the same thing under a different name please.
I admit I am not wowed by this one yet, but who knows, maybe after seeing a few swatches and bigger pictures I might feel differently. Product pictures like this usually don’t do much for me anyway, so I’m not surprised by feeling this way about this collection right now.
Under the Sea themed manicure – Spongebob!
I’m part of a Facebook group called Adventures in Stamping that was created by Debbie of The Crumpet fame. As you’ve probably already guessed by the name; it’s a stamping group where we stamp on Sundays by a theme that was picked by the group at the beginning of the week..
This week the theme was Under the Sea. And because I didn’t want to do the whole Fish and Blue water thing, as I had a feeling those would be picked a lot already, I decided it was time to go with one of my favorite men of all time. Spongebob!
As a basecoat I’ve used Sally Hansen – Triple Strong, my current go to basecoat which has been making my nails a lot stronger than they’ve been for a while now.
When that had dried I painted my nails with Essence color & go – Mellow Yellow, which is the perfect soft yellow for Mr Squarepants there.
After that using image plate Qa2 that I got off of eBay a while ago I stamped the little holes in the sponge with O.P.I. – Over the Taupe.
I used the small end of my double sided stamper to make sure I was able to position everything perfectly.
Then it was time to stamp on the teeth and eyewhites, for that I used Konad’s white stamping polish. Then came the trickiest part, lining up the white shapes I had just stamped with black lines. Believe me, it took me a moment but eventually I got it!
The pupils and the tongue had to be painted in by hand, I used a dotting tool for that.
The red logo, tongue and one of the flowers are Essence Color & Go – Fame Fatal
The black that I used for the pupils is Essence Color & Go – Black is Back
And the orange flowers are O.P.I.’s - Heeeere’s Jack! that comes from their 2008 Halloween mini’s set.
When I got everything in position I used my loyal Seche Vite topcoat and he’s been living on my fingers for a day now. I can’t stop smiling when I see him, I hope you guys are as amused by him as I am!
I hope to be sharing more of our challenges in here, and who knows, if you enjoy stamping I’ll see you at the group on Facebook someday?
Have you tried a cartoon character on your fingernails yet?
And would you wear this guy on your nails?
China Glaze – Colours from the Capital.
Lionsgate and China Glaze have finally released the official color palette and names from their Hunger Games nail polish collection. “Colours from the Capitol” is inspired solely by Panem’s lavish, beauty-obsessed Capitol. I have not read the books (yet) so it was interesting to read how obsessed with everything the Capitol is in one of the quotes in the press release: “Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes.”
You’ll see in the photo above that they’ve used the same twelve colors from the original leak and renamed them—and to be honest, I’m quite happy about that because they’ve picked some gorgeous colors for this collection. And look, there even is a flakie it seems!
What’s also cool is that while the colors might be linked to the Capitol, they’re also very clearly influenced by the twelve districts of Panem. Here’s the breakdown:
- Luxe and Lush – District 1 (Luxury)
- Stone Cold – District 2 (Masonry)
- Riveting – District 3 (Technology)
- Hook and Line – District 4 (Fishing)
- Electrify – District 5 (Power)
- Fast Track – District 6 (Transportation)
- Mahogany Magic – District 7 (Lumber)
- Dress Me Up – District 8 (Textiles)
- Harvest Moon – District 9 (Grain)
- Foie Gras – District 10 (Livestock)
- Agro – District 11 (Agriculture)
- Smoke and Ashes – District 12 (Mining)
I’ve got to say I love all the shimmers and creams, I’m not a bit fan of glitter polish but I do like that flakie and would love to see how it layers over the other colors. What do you think of this collection?
Amazing news from OPI!
O.P.I. is releasing an amazing collection I will certainly try to get every bottle of because… IT HAS A DUTCH THEME!
If you didn’t know this yet, I’m Dutch, so you know… this is kind of a big deal to me! Okay, enough small talk, I’m sure you’re curious about the colors and their names, so let’s just go to the first pictures that have been released:
- Gouda Gouda Two Shoes,
- Wooden Shoes Like to Know It,
- I Don’t Give a Rotterdam,
- A Roll In The Hague,
- Petal Faster Suzi,
- Dutch Ya Just Love OPI,
- Thanks a WindMillion,
- Red Lights Ahead…Where?,
- Kiss Me On My Tulips,
- Vampsterdam,
- I Have a Herring Problem,
- Did You Hear About Van Gogh?
The names are cracking me up already and I’ve got to say I do like the colors very much.
Now on to the swatches:
I’m in LOVE with “Dutchya just love OPI”, “Vampsterdam” and “I have a herring problem”. But the rest of the colors are quite lovely as well.
This collection will be coming February 2012 and I will of course be getting them all. I just can’t let this one pass me by!
How about you all? Will you be getting some of these? Or is this just not your thing?
Illamasqua: A Journey – part 1; The History.
Recently I was invited to a bloggers event in Amsterdam by the lovely Alex Cummins who is Junior Brand Manager for Illamasqua. I soon found out there were a lot of other great blogging ladies who were going to attend the presentation and I found myself anxiously looking forward to September 3rd. This was the day it was all going to happen; the presentation of their third Autumn/Winter collection to date: Theatre of the Nameless.
First let me give you some details about this great brand before I tell you about the collection and of course the event. Illamasqua is a British brand that launched in 2008 in Selfridges in London. It was founded byJulian Kynaston, who was just bored by the industry at that time as they were all just bringing out the same look – a nude lip and a smokey eye or a variation of it over and over again. He wanted to bring back the artistry in make up. He approached Alex Box - she was one of the make up artists that was really pushing the boundaries at the time. She was experimenting with make up – using it as an artform and she came in and is still with the brand as their creative director. She’s very hands on with all the products and she is the one that brings in the creative teams to work on everything. She works closely with them so she’s not just the face of the brand, a name they can drop to impress. The brand went global after 6 months, launching at Sephora and they soon became the fastest growing make-up brand in the past 20 years, which is, of course, incredible. Their mission is to provide high-performance, professional make-up to anyone who wants to self-express and accentuate their look beyond the norm. Illamasqua is for the bolder person hiding inside all of us. Their tagline after all is ‘Make Up for your Alter Ego’ and this shows in every product they’ve released so far.
The Theatre of the Nameless 2011 autumn/winter collection was heavily influenced by Anita Berber. Anita was a young firey red haired dancer, actress, writer, and prostitute from the 1920′s Berlin. A period in time when Berlin was rethinking art, politics and life itself. One of its inhabitants; Anita; was pushing it further than anyone else. She was the original wild child. She lived life fast, partied hard and people either loved or hated her for it. She could often be seen in hotel lobbies, nightclubs and casinos; she would walk around naked except for a sable fur, carrying a pet monkey and a silver brooch full of cocaine while flaunting her lesbian lovers—removing the barrier between performance and normal life. She died when she was only 29 from severe tuberculosis, a year after she had given up alcohol and cocaine, but she had already touched many lives on her way to that early grave. She was once the actress who had Leni Riefenstahl as her understudy and she had influenced Marlene Dietrich (one of her many lovers for a while) to wear a tuxedo, something women of that era wouldn’t dare to before. And now she has touched us all again through this beautiful, dark, sexy, new collection.
