Multicolored glitter

China Glaze releases the Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away collection.

I’ve known about this collection for a few months now but was asked to not speak about these just yet as China Glaze was keeping these under wraps for just a little longer…, and boy was it hard to keep these to myself because man, aren’t they interesting? To me the larger glitters look like something a lot of polish lovers have been buying from the Indie Polish makers and now China Glaze is bringing this amazing look to the general public as well, I love it!

There are 12 colors in this collection as you can see in the collage I made of them up here, and these are their names:

I’ll be curious to see what the swatches of this collection will be like and what everyone’s favorites will be.

What are your thoughts of this little set? Is this a must have or a must pass for you?

For those interested in buying these, Transdesign has the collection up already!

First look: Euro Centrale collection by OPI

Oh boy do I have a nice little scoop for you, look what OPI just revealed on their facebook page, Euro Centrale, their Spring/Summer 2013 Collection.

I love them! The names are just classic OPI funny and the colors are quite pretty! I hope they will give out a release date for these soon so I can start saving up for a few of these.

Sneak Peek at Mariah Carey for O.P.I. – or is it a fake?

I found this picture earlier and I am really not sure how I feel about this set just yet… and honestly I’m wondering if this picture is real I mean 3 VERY similar browns (in this picture at least, which doesn’t seem to make much sense anyway as this collection is said to have 8 colors, I count 9 if you include the glitter which is pretty much Rainbow Connection from the Muppets collection that they released earlier this year… It’s true, look at THIS picture of that polish and the one up here… it’s the same picture! People are also saying that the other colors look like the ones from the Touring America collection… the plot thickens!), two fuchsias and what looks like a blackened purple, a grey and an orange and a glitter topcoat. It’s a bit… boring for a star who is known for her love of bling, you know what I mean? Mariah, I just expected so much more of you. You have studied cosmetology in case singing didn’t work for you and I thought you’d pick something a bit more unique for this collection… IF it is real that is…

That said, I do like browns and purples and fuchsias so I may just get a few of these… but I guess I’m underwhelmed by what I thought would be an amazing collection. So really, I do hope it’s fake!

In any case, her new collection will be out January 13th 2013 and later that year there will be a second collection, so hopefully she’ll redeem herself with that one, again… if this one is even real.

How do you feel about these colors?

Edited to add: LOOK these are the REAL polishes and swatches, thank goodness, this is what I expected of her, not those in the picture up there! *RELIEF*

I’m feeling Nail-Venturous week, day 1: The Shimmer Effect, Corrupted and Flying Blue Jay.

This week I’m going to be celebrating the nail polishes I have that are made by Amy of I’m Feeling Nail-Venturous. Not because it’s her birthday, not because it’s almost my birthday. I’m doing this because she has some amazing polishes and I am very proud of the fact that I’ve designed the labels of the polishes that are being sold through Ninja Polish. You may know her work through a quirky polish that is currently taking the nail polish world by storm called Floam, which I shall be featuring later this week, but now onto the first three Nail-Venturous Lacquers that deserve a spotlight as well.

The polishes I am featuring today come from Amy’s own Etsy shop which is currently closed. Follow her Facebook page for updates though, you never know when she might return with an amazing new batch of polishes. They do not have my label but that of course doesn’t take away from how awesome these polishes are.

Take a look at the beautiful polish here on the top left. It’s called the Shimmer Effect and I was attracted to it right away, not just because it’s purple, but also because there is such a richness in other colors in there. There’s silver, green, light blue, orange/gold. It is simply stunning. And it sadly is a bit hard to capture but there’s a green pearly sheen over it as well that is just so unique. The official description is this: The Shimmer Effect has a purple base loaded with shimmer. It also has tiny square glitter as well as ultra fine green glitter. This polish has full coverage in two coats. This product is 3 free, and comes in a 15ml/.5 oz full size bottle.

In the picture I’ve applied two coats of polish over Rejuvacote, so no base color underneath to make this baby opaque, that’s how gorgeously pigmented it is, I was very impressed! It also applies easily and I did not have any trouble distributing the glitter evenly over my nails. Because it’s so full of glitter the surface of the nails will be slightly bumpy once it dries so I recommend you use a nice thick glossy topcoat over this polish to really bring out the colors and smooth out the surface.

Up next, pictured here on the right, is a polish called Corrupted. It’s a nice dark blue that I decided to apply over a blue polish, not because it will not be opaque after a few layers, but because I did not want to use a lot of layers so this polish will last me a while.

I first used a basecoat and a layer of Sinful Colors Neptune before applying Corrupted and just look how it shines, isn’t this pretty? Amy describes this polish as follows: Corrupted has a dark blue jelly base with ultra fine blue and gold glitter. It also has blue and white diamond shaped glitter, blue and turquoise small glitter, and gold shredded glitter. This product is 3 free, and comes in a 15ml/.5 oz full size bottle.

Again, as with all glitters really, you should really wear a nice thick glossy topcoat with this to bring out the glitters even more and to keep your polish from chipping.

Now, last but not least, here on the left is Flying Blue Jay, this polish is quite different from the other two as it doesn’t have any reflective glitter but only whites in different sizes and some blue micro glitter. This is what creator Amy has to say about it:  Flying Blue Jay has a dark blue jelly base with various sizes of white glitter and ultra fine blue and white glitter. This polish is 3 free, and comes in a 15ml full size bottle.

I think this is a very unique polish, something I’ve not seen before in other brands. Amy also has another polish that kind of looks like this but it is a black base with white glitter called Voodoo Doll which I shall be showing you later this week.

I started, again, with a base of Rejuvacote and a layer of Sinful Colors Neptune before putting this color on in two layers. I think this one out of the three featured today is the hardest polish to apply. Well, no correction, it is easy to apply as the color applies smoothly, but you need to fiddle around a bit to place the big glitter as they will not go on evenly if you don’t. Does that ruin the polish for me? Heck no, it’s a stunning vibrant blue that only stands out more with the white glitter that shows through the color. You are guaranteed to get compliments wearing any of today’s polishes though, mark my words!

Glitter polishes usually are not my favorite but man I do have to admit to having a weakness for these three because wow, look at the colors and the glitter combinations, Amy clearly knows what she is doing and has an eye for color and texture and I admire her immensely for that.

What do you think of these three featured today? Do you have a polish by Nail-Venturous Lacquers yet? Or is this possibly the first time you’ve heard about indie (independent) nail polishes?

Oh MAN how cool is this bottle?!

I don’t do this often, but I am going to start off by showing you 20 pictures of nail polish. Here we go:

How amazing is not only this bottle shape but also this nail polish? I mean look at them, one has flakies, some have glitter, some glow in the dark while others are amazing under black light! And I love that it all is happening in just ONE collection!
This ladies and gentlemen is a polish by the brand Blackheart and they are out now at Hot Topic for only $5 a piece! That’s a steal!
The sad thing is though that due to airline restrictions, this item can only be delivered within the 48 continental United States using Ground Shipping. So I, as a European am out of luck and cannot order this from the site.

I may have to ask one of my friends in the USA to get some of these for me though, as these for the bottle alone already looks too unique to pass up!

Have you ever bought a polish merely for the unique bottle? And what do you think of these colors and finishes?

Hed Kandi joins forces with Models Own!

Hed Kandi joined forces with Models Own to create a new exclusive collection of nail polishes inspired by the party capital of the world, Ibiza!

“With this year being Hed Kandi’s 10 year anniversary on the Balearic party island, the range of five polishes reflects the Hed-turning, fashionforward glamour that the fabulous brand brings to all their events on The White Isle. The ‘Hed Kandi collection’ instantly brings to life the recognisable glamorous girls synonymous with the brand, transporting you to the jet-set global dance floor. With three of the brightest Models Own shades and two premium glitters making up the collection this embodies the whole essence that Ibiza has to offer.”

There are 5 colors in this set:

  • Balearic Cool: a lovely aquamarine that will remind you of the waters by Formentera.
  • Hedonist: a sizzling hot bright coral that in this picture kind of reminds me of a more orange version of O.P.I’s Red Lights Ahead… Where?
  • Beach Party: a sunny yellow polish inspired by the world famous sunsets on the White Isle.
  • Disco Heaven: a glittery gold nail polish that seems to be infused with blue green iridescent sparkle.
  • Ibiza Mix: a gorgeous multi-coloured sparkle that will surely catch anybodies eye when you’re out club hopping.
Here’s another view of the two glitters and I can’t help but wonder how they’ll look as a topper over the three brights in this set.
I think these two glitters will be the big hit of the collection and might end up being quite sought after for a long time so get your grabby hands on them while you can!
The Hedkandi polishes will be on sale at £5 from the end of March online and are due in UK Boots stores in April.

I’m loving all these brights coming out right now and I have got to say that I really like this little set! What do you all think?

China Glaze Halloween 2012 collection preview!

Wow, it’s only just February and there have already popped up a few pictures of the Halloween 2012 collection that China Glaze will  be bringing out!

I of course can’t help but share these little gems with you. No word on when exactly they will be up for sale and I haven’t found any swatches of it yet, but as soon as I know more you’ll of course hear it here first.

There are 6 colors in this collection, from the vibrant almost neon Roguish Red, to the murky yet shimmery Cast a spell I have a feeling this collection will not disappoint.

I’m not really into glitter so if they will bring out separate packs I will probably not buy the one that has Glitter Goblin, but who knows it might be one that steals my heart the most when I see it swatched or at least in person.

Being a big fan of blue toned purple I will probably try to hunt Bizarre Blurple down though. Plus that I have to admit that Immortal is intriguing me as well, will it have glitter or possibly holographic shimmers or flakies? Will it possibly be a dupe for Illamasqua’s Raindrops? As for Make a Spectacle… I have a feeling we’ve all seen this one before, who doesn’t remember Snow Globe from last years Let it Snow collection? I’m all for recycling, but not in the polish world. There are still so many colors and finishes out there, please come up with something new instead of bringing back the same thing under a different name please.

I admit I am not wowed by this one yet, but who knows, maybe after seeing a few swatches and bigger pictures I might feel differently. Product pictures like this usually don’t do much for me anyway, so I’m not surprised by feeling this way about this collection right now.

What do you think of this first brief look? And are there any colors that are calling your name already?

I go Gaga for silver leopard nails.

Today I kind of have a little mixed media project on my nails because I’ve used several things to get to this flashy end result.

I started it all off by using a nice base coat and covered that with a silver polish by Barry M as a color base. I used a silver polish as a base because I intend to use a silver nailart foil. And the foil doesn’t always stick to the glue right you might get some bald spots. So this is just to make sure you cover your nails completely.

After that had dried I applied special foil glue and added a layer of silver foil that I’ve ordered from Dollarnailart ages ago.

Nailfoils are nothing like the nail stickers that Sally Hanson or all the other brands currently are selling. Foils are sold in a long rolled up strip that you can cut sections off of. You then rub those sections onto your nail after putting on a special glue. This glue dries clear and tacky and it helps the foil adhere to the nail. Once you’re certain the foil has attached to the glue you very gently pull it off. So what is left on your nail is a very very thin layer of color that has come off the actual foil that is now clear. The layer is so thin that it will get scraped off easily, this and the glue react strongly to certain topcoats so you need to be careful with that as well.

Just so the foil doesn’t crinkle I coated the silver nails royally with a waterbased topcoat by Piggy Polish, and by royally I mean at least three layers. After that had dried I stamped it with my black Konad stamping polish and Konad plate m57 topping it off with a regular topcoat.

Here’s the end result:

They are a bit hard to photograph because of how reflective they are, but they are so much fun to wear that I just had to give it a shot and take a picture for you all.

Have you ladies tried foils before? If yes, did you like it? If no, would you in the future?
