O.P.I.

OPI to release a “Vault collection” soon?

People have asked, Suzi answered! O.P.I. founder and industry-proclaimed “Queen of Nails,” Suzi Weiss-Fischmann weighs in on what you want to know most!

So you know what to do, go over to the O.P.I. Facebook page and click like! http://www.facebook.com/OPIProducts the sooner they’ll hit that 1.5 million fans!

Much love!

I personally love the Holographic DS colors but alas, there won’t be more of those, at least, not with that formula. Besides that I adore Funkey Dunkey and of course the Suedes! I’m all for another release of those.

Now tell me, what O.P.I. polishes would you like to get a re-release? And which colors that you can still get are your favorites?

O.P.I. releasing the Great and Powerful Oz collection in 2013

Just found this on OPI’s Facebook page:

Disney’s The Great & Powerful OZ inspired these 7 great & powerful limited edition lacquers, due out in March 2013!

The range includes three mega glitters, three pearly sheers, and one bold Liquid Sand hue. Which are you wishing for?

Much love! Not so crazy about this collection myself, but that’s merely a thing of personal taste because I’m just not into big glitter and pinks. What do you guys think about these? By the way, I am looking out to the movie, the trailer for it looks fantastic!

First look: Euro Centrale collection by OPI

Oh boy do I have a nice little scoop for you, look what OPI just revealed on their facebook page, Euro Centrale, their Spring/Summer 2013 Collection.

I love them! The names are just classic OPI funny and the colors are quite pretty! I hope they will give out a release date for these soon so I can start saving up for a few of these.

Sneak Peek at Mariah Carey for O.P.I. – or is it a fake?

I found this picture earlier and I am really not sure how I feel about this set just yet… and honestly I’m wondering if this picture is real I mean 3 VERY similar browns (in this picture at least, which doesn’t seem to make much sense anyway as this collection is said to have 8 colors, I count 9 if you include the glitter which is pretty much Rainbow Connection from the Muppets collection that they released earlier this year… It’s true, look at THIS picture of that polish and the one up here… it’s the same picture! People are also saying that the other colors look like the ones from the Touring America collection… the plot thickens!), two fuchsias and what looks like a blackened purple, a grey and an orange and a glitter topcoat. It’s a bit… boring for a star who is known for her love of bling, you know what I mean? Mariah, I just expected so much more of you. You have studied cosmetology in case singing didn’t work for you and I thought you’d pick something a bit more unique for this collection… IF it is real that is…

That said, I do like browns and purples and fuchsias so I may just get a few of these… but I guess I’m underwhelmed by what I thought would be an amazing collection. So really, I do hope it’s fake!

In any case, her new collection will be out January 13th 2013 and later that year there will be a second collection, so hopefully she’ll redeem herself with that one, again… if this one is even real.

How do you feel about these colors?

Edited to add: LOOK these are the REAL polishes and swatches, thank goodness, this is what I expected of her, not those in the picture up there! *RELIEF*

Video – How to do nail art using acrylic inks.

And that’s how I created the nails I posted yesterday. I hope you enjoyed the video and that it inspired you to try out this method yourself.

You can buy the inks, brand Daler Rowney, and the pen shown in the video at an artist supply shop, craft store or even on eBay. The white polish I used underneath the design is O.P.I.’s Alpine Snow to get a nice clear image for the video. The inks are usually so opaque though that you can use any color you like.

If you decide to try this, I’d love to see your work! Link me in the comments if you want.

OPI Pink of Hearts breast cancer awareness 2012

This year O.P.I. has doubled its support by featuring 2 shades of pink in a duo Pink of Hearts pack. The Pink of Hearts pack features the classic pastel musk pink I Think in Pink combined with a new sequined sparkling lacquer You Glitter Be Good to Me. This sparkly lacquer is packed with both micro and macro glitters in pink and magenta, and can be worn alone or layered on top of I Think in Pink.  Pink of Hearts 2012 includes two shades sold in one pack and will be sold from 16th September, this set is of course a limited edition so if you want these you better hurry and get these fast.

As I’ve said before, I adore it when big brands like this releases things to help a good cause! Have you bought polishes to support a cause before? If so, what polish and what cause was it?

More O.P.I. polishes coming out – More Bond!

Now to start with the bond collection, not only are they releasing a big collection with 12 colors, they are also releasing a 18 carat gold topcoat and just now I’ve seen 3 magnetic polishes that are also part of the collection!

“Create instant attraction with Skyfal Magnetic Lacquer. Simply apply two coats of Lacquer and place your finger into the magnetizer for just a few seconds… Instant Nail art!”

There are three magnetic polishes to be released called:

  • Is that Silva? - A lovely silver with a diagonal striped magnet.
  • Bond, James Bond - A golden polish with a magnet that will give your nail a mesh look.
  • Morning, Moneypenny - A nice fuchsia color with a horizontal stripe magnet.

I honestly think that OPI is a bit behind with these here, as the magnetic crazy is pretty much over by now, but I am curious to see how good the magnets will be and how these so called “Magnetizers” will look!

What do you think? Will you be buying more Magnetics? Or are you over it?

O.P.I. reveals first picture of “The Man with the Golden Gun”!

O.P.I. just revealed a VERY special treat that they have in store for all of us this Holiday season! In celebration of James Bond’s Golden Anniversary they are releasing their first-ever 18 carat gold leaf top coat “The Man with the Golden Gun”. It will be released to accompany their 007 collection which I have blogged about right here.

Inspired by the world of 007, this stunning top coat contains real 18 carat gold and comes packaged in a special limited edition collectible gold bottle – the ultimate holiday gift as the whole James Bond themed collection will be available this October.

MAN, isn’t that bottle stunning? Just for that I’d buy it, woohoo bottle porn ;) Just a little warning though, because this contains real gold the price for this will be $30,-

Sadly, as it is not out right now I’ve not had the chance to swatch this myself yet. However I do know of a similar polish that IS out already that is made by a good friend of mine called Lori. Only she used 22 carat gold flakes and it’s gorgeous over all kinds of polish colors, especially blues and purples I think. She is selling them via her page, They are 14 ml/.5 oz. bottles for $16.00 (NaN€) (NaN€). Shipping is $3 for US, $5 for international, which is pretty much the same amount of polish as O.P.I., only cheaper AND a higher carat. And most importantly, hers looks like this:

Delicious isn’t it? Besides this she also sells color changing pigment topcoats which are gorgeous as well! Certainly take a look at her page if you like what you see here. Alas she’s currently not selling Spectraflair but she will be selling it again in the near future no doubt!

So, if you can’t wait for Mr Bond and his golden gun I suggest you take a peak at her page and shoot her a message, and before you know it you will be rocking real gold on your nails!

Would you buy these, and if so, which one AND over what color would you wear it?

O.P.I. Halloween 2012 – the So So Skullicious Mini Pack!

I just found a picture of a cute new set by O.P.I. that turned out to be a set of mini’s they have released recently in the theme of the Day of the Dead!

The Day of the dead (Spanish: Día de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico, where it is a national holiday, and all banks are closed. The celebration takes place on October 30th, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day (November 2). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. They also leave possessions of the deceased.

The usually beautifully decorated sugar skulls are the theme of this mini pack and I could not be more excited! I’ve always been fascinated by those.

Okay, on to the picture:

The So So Skullicious Mini Pack contains:
4 Limited Edition Halloween Nail Lacquer Minis (3.75 mL – 1/8 Fl. Oz.)+ 1 sheet of Colorful nail Decals.
The colors are:

  • Hi Pumpkin! - This jack-o-lantern orange is sweet on you
  • A-Rose from the Dead - This hot pink is the life of the party
  • Mourning Glory - A black so shiny, it will lift your spirits
  • Candlelight - Be all aglow in this flame yellow
Now as for the release date… I’ve already found these on Amazon, Ebay and a few beauty supply stores online, so if you want these google them and I’m sure you’ll run into them in no time!

I myself LOVE these and I’m usually not a big fan of mini’s. What are your thoughts about them?

O.P.I. is releasing a James Bond themed collection!

This Holiday we will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of James Bond and the release of the twenty-third installment called Skyfall with 12 dangerously gorgeous shades! Make sure to keep an ‘eye’ out for this stunning collection coming to salons October 1st!

Colors shown from left to right:

  • The Spy Who Loved Me,
  • Casino Royale,
  • You Only Live Twice,
  • Die Another Day,
  • Skyfall,
  • GoldenEye,
  • The World Is Not Enough,
  • Moonraker,
  • On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,
  • The Living Daylights,
  • Live And Let Die,
  • Tomorrow Never Dies.

They look fabulous don’t they? I may just have to grab a few of these.

Which one is your favorite? And out of curiosity, who is YOUR favorite James Bond? Mine is Sean Connery.

Do you have any polishes of the O.P.I. DS series?

Mani update – Neon-ized it!

Do you ever have this problem of enjoying the time consuming nailart you’ve done but just are not feeling the colors anymore?

That’s the problem I had with my Monochromatic Manicure. I just needed some color after rocking the black and white for a few days. So what I decided to do is give in to the current neon and gradient craze and sponge some of my neons over this to make it look more summery. Because neons are usually quite sheer it would show the pattern still so I wouldn’t feel like I had wasted my time drawing all kinds of stuff on my nails when I’d only wear the manicure for a few days.

This is what they ended up looking like:

And this is what I used to achieve the effect. Please ignore the condition of my neon yellow, I know it looks miserable but it was in a bag along with a few polishes that broke when I flew back from vacation last year and I haven’t taken the time to clean that one up just yet…

Pictured are:

  • China Glaze – Purple Panic
  • Essence nail art twins – Gabriella
  • Kiko – 336
  • China Glaze – In the limelight
  • China Glaze – Celtic Sun
  • A cut up make up sponge

Have you tried gradient nails yet? If so, what colors did you use?

Monochrome Monday

Yesterday was Monochrome Monday, something a group of friends and I challenged each other to do a few days ago. I love seeing how everyone interpreted it differently and gave their nails a whole different spin on this topic. You’ll see what they created in the links below, but first on to what I did and used for my nails and of course what they look like right now.

First a little explanation of the word:

mon·o·chrome [ˈmɒnəˌkrəʊm] noun.
1. a. A picture, especially a painting, done in different shades of a single color.
b. The art or technique of executing such a picture.
2. The state of being in a single color.
3. A black-and-white image, as in photography or on television.

Now on to my nails and the inspiration I used. I decided to free hand this challenge. Don’t get me wrong, I love stamping, but I do it all the time and I just wanted to do something unique this time.

A little while ago I decorated some smooth pebbles with a little pen and acrylic ink and a lot of people liked them. My mom keeps the ones I made for her in a little glass bell on her patio table.

From left to right, on the picture on the right, you see Rejuvacote which I always use as a base, next to that is my Seche Vite topcoat. The bigger white bottle is my white acrylic ink. Next to that a beautiful small bottle of BK’s black holo and in the back on the right is Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees. The pen I used is laying in the foreground. It’s just a simple fountain pen that comes without cartridges and that you have to dip in ink to work. The ink I bought at an artist supply store a while ago, along with the other three basic colors yellow magenta and blue, and of course black, that way I can mix almost any color I would like.

After I had painted my nails with Suzi Skis and my ring fingers with the BK holographic polish and they were completely dry I started to draw on my nails like I had on the pebbles, just kind of going with the flow. Not having planned any pattern beforehand I came to this end result and I hope you like it! It did prove to be a bit of a challenge to draw with my left hand onto my right fingernails but I think they came out really well. I’m slightly ambidextrous and did not know it I guess!

I hope you all enjoyed this post and will become inspired to give something like this a go yourself sometime!

OPI Outrageous Neons Mini Collection.

Another fabulous neons collection about to be launched is the OPI Outrageous Mini Collection.

OPI has made a video to tell you all about this little bright collection right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZvmbkRS9tk

And if you haven’t got a lot of time or a bad connection and can’t watch video yet are curious about the colors in this collection, here’s a pic and the names of all the colors:

  • Ridiculously Yellow
  • Formidably Orange
  • Riotously Pink
  • Seriously Purple

Besides these colors the set also consists of a special white basecoat and the opi topcoat. All bottles contain 3.75ml which is 1/8 fl oz.

If you have not seen a Mini polish compared to a full OPI bottle  I’ve quickly taken a picture for you of a full sized bottle and a mini I got with one of the Halloween sets many years ago.

Now I have to admit, I love these, but I wish they’d just release full sizes of these so I could just get myself the purple. The other colors are fun, but I already have similar colors and I usually am not too crazy about mini polishes as with longer nails you only get 3 to 4 wears out of each color if you use them sparingly.

What do you think of this nifty little set? Will you be getting these or are you going to skip this?

I’m feeling Nail-Venturous week, day 2: Humble Bee.

Today I’m going to show you another beauty in the Nail-Venturous family. One that is actually quite dear to me, not just because I created the label for this but also because I, just like my mom, have a weakness for bumble bees. I am not sure exactly how or when it started but just love their little fluffy appearance and the way they just make their way through the garden sampling all the flowers looking like they’re way too big to be able to fly. Adorable!

If you know a little bit about Amy’s creations you will know I’m talking about Humble Bee. She herself describes this lovely creation as follows: Humble Bee has yellow glitter and ultrafine and medium size black glitter in a clear base. It has semi-complete coverage in two coats. With topcoat or gelous, Humble Bee can have a shiny finish. However, this polish dries with a matte finish, and the glitter itself does not really sparkle. This polish also looks great as a layering polish. This polish tends to be a tad thick, but application should be easy. This product is 3 free, and comes in a 15ml/.5 oz full size bottle.

I think it’s time I stopped talking and just showed you the pictures of this fabulous polish. The micro glitter in this reminds me of Floam, another gorgeous and very sought after polish by Nail-Venturous Lacquers that I will be featuring later this week, and to me the black, bigger, glitter just really make it stand out.

In these pictures I’m wearing one layer of Humble Bee over a layer of Fiercely Fiona out of the O.P.I. Shrek collection. Underneath that I of course started with a basecoat and I topped it all off with Seche Vite to give the nails some extra shine and protection. By the way, I think that if I had added another layer the base color wouldn’t have been necessary, but since I’m really cherishing this polish I decided to take it easy and to just use one layer.

What do you think? Is this your cup of tea or are you not into these kind of polishes at all?

Nail of the day: Mint to teal gradient

Just a very quick drive by posting of my nail of the day which is a gradient I did using China Glaze – For Audrey as a base color and along with that  I used Sinful Colors – Why Not, Mattésse Elite – Vig(Thank you again Marissa for sending me that set! They’re stunning!) and Nicole By O.P.I.’s Khloe had a little Lam-Lam to sponge over it leaving me with a nice fresh looking gradient. I hope you like it!

Have you tried gradient nails yet? Or is this not your thing at all?

Gradient Friday!

I’d like to take this moment and share my nails of the week with you, these are gradient nails that I made using O.P.I. polishes and a little make up sponge.  It looks complicated but it really is quite simple. If you want I’ll soon do a tutorial to show you exactly how to do this type of nailart that will surely blow many people’s minds this summer. For now I’ll just show you some pictures.

Okay onto the manicures. This, besides the sponge, is what I used for the one pictured on the right.

I used Alpine Snow, a pure white, as a base. It’s important to use a light opaque base when you use light colors to sponge as the sponged colors go on very sheer. Over that I sponged (from the bottom left to the top right) Need Sunglasses, A Roll in the Hague, Red Lights Ahead… Where?. Dim Sum Plum, Funky Dunkey and last but not least I put on a thin coat of DS Shimmer to give it the subtle holographic effect. And really that’s all there is to it! I know I’m making it sound like it’s a piece of cake, but really it is!

Now I enjoyed this manicure so much that when I finally had to take it off later that week due to chipping I whipped up another gradient manicure by just using 5 polishes instead of 7.

This next one I made by using a clean make up sponge and first painting my nails white again with OPI’s Alpine Snow, and letting that dry,  before I painted my sponge for the gradient (as you can see in the little picture on the bottom right of that little collage on the left there.) I went from yellow to green to deep blue using Need Sunglasses, Jade Is The New Black and Roadhouse Blues, all colors by O.P.I. I topped them again with OPI DS Shimmer to give them that nice holographic shimmer and after that they were good to go.

I feel there are a lot more gradients in my future and I want to try one with metallics soon.

But for now I leave you with the gradients of a few good friends of mine who all did their own version of a gradient this week for Gradient Friday.

I hope you’ll pay them a visit and check out their work.

And of course let me know what you thought, did you have a favorite, and will you be trying this technique for yourself soon?

Queensday nailart.

Just a quickie for you today showing off what I am wearing on my nails right now in honor of Koninginnedag. (Click the word to read more about this Dutch National Holiday)

For the base I’ve used OPI A Roll in the Hague as it is of course the most perfect orange for this occasion.

On the tips to halfway down my nail I’ve dabbed some Orange You Unique by the amazing Amy of Nailventurous  which I’ve incidentally designed the labels for so go check them out!

When it was dry and topcoated I stamped a black crown over it with black Konad special polish so the golden crown I stamped over it with Passion by China Glaze after that stood out a bit more.

Have a fabulous Queensday everyone who celebrates it!

Did you do something special too for this day?

Alright, I’ve given in! Here’s my Easter manicure!

I didn’t think I would do it, honestly I don’t care much about Easter nail art. All the Easter eggs, bunnies and crosses in pastel shades usually do not do it for me but when my mom asked me if I wasn’t going to do any Easter themed nails I took it as a bit of a challenge to find something I like that does have a bit of an Easter feel to it.

So I came up with these:

Excuse the dry cuticles, I’m working on those, believe me! I know what’s causing them too, you see, I’m just too stubborn or actually too impatient to stop using Acetone free remover, so every time I take off my polish I dry out my cuticles a tad more and I have to use my OPI Avoplex things again to get them a bit more presentable again… A never ending cycle really. You know how it goes I’m sure…

Anyway what I used for this mani is the following:

Orly Nailtrition – The basecoat

China Glaze‘s For Audrey – The base color

Konad‘s Wine Red stamping polish for the dots as I couldn’t find my brown.

A Sponge Bob Stamping plate for the dots (Click here to go to the Ebay page to buy it):

And of course a royal coat of Seche Vite to protect it all and after that I was done. That’s all there is to it really and it makes for a cute, really wearable Easter manicure.

Did you do an Easter manicure as well this year? If so, what did you do?

The O.P.I. Germany fall 2012 collection – a first look!

First it was the Netherlands with the more than fabulous O.P.I. Holland collection, now Germany is being honored by O.P.I. with their own range of nail polishes!

Creamy neutrals. Rich jewel tones. Pull out your lederhosen, because this Fall OPI is taking you back to Europe with the Germany Collection by O.P.I! These are the 12 colors from left to right, from top to bottom:

  • My Very First Knockwurst,
  • Don’t Pretzel My Buttons,
  • Berlin There Done That,

Some of these names just made me laugh out loud, and I’m not sure what to think about the colors just yet. I’d like to see some swatches first before I’m convinced I guess.

I have found a few more pictures and even a release date, scroll down to see when these are out.

Release date: August 8, 2012

What do you guys think? Are these a must have for you? Or quite possibly a must pass?
